This is a concept for a board game called Deep Time. The player's experience is enhanced by the addition of three rotating "realities" that are visible through circular glass windows. Since the themes of the two "realities" are primitive and futuristic I wanted the materials to accurately portray this to a large gamut of player age levels. To achieve this I used rough-sawn black walnut (that I finished with mineral oil) and brushed stainless steel hardware. I found the wood in my Father's shop, and it was the scrap leftover from a grandfather clock my Grandfather built in the 1960s. Just by luck, there was the perfect amount for the project. I have added a photograph of the rough-sawn lumber at the end so you can see the transformation.
